Pomfret Fish Fry - Vavval Meen Varuval - Tawa Fish fry

Fish fry is the delicious, hot, spicy and crispy. Its one of the simple and easy appetizer. Indian spices do not only help to add flavors, it also helps to fight against bacteria in the fish.


Rasam and Fish fry is ultimate comfort kind of food. My son recent addiction is fish fry, but he never agrees that cut fish pieces fry is not fish might be chicken. So I decided fish fry menas hereafter the pomfret fish fry. This fish literally melts in your mouth. For bright red color I used Kashmiri Chili Powder.

Ingredients

  • Full fish - 2
  • Red Chili Powder - 1 tbsp
  •  Coriander Powder - 1 tbsp
  • Turmeric Powder - 1 tsp 
  • Ginger Paste - 1 tsp
  • Garlic paste - 1 tsp
  •  Cumin seeds Powder -  1 tsp
  •  Fennel seeds Powder - 1 tsp
  • Coconut Oil for frying
  • Salt as per taste

How to Marinate fish

  1. In a bowl add red chili powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, cumin powder, fennel powder, salt, ginger and garlic paste. Mix well.
  2. Apply masala paste on both sides of fish. Apply more masala paste in slits. 
  3. Spread coriander, turmeric and chili powder on plate and put the fish. Make sure to apply both sides.
  4. Marinate for minimum 30 minutes

Method

  1. Deep clean the fish and make slits on each sides.
  2. Marinate in the refrigerator for 30 mins or place in the sunlight for 30 mins.
  3. Heat oil in a dosa pan, it consumes less oil only and healthy too with slow cooking.
  4. Place the fish in the hot oil carefully. Heat on medium flame.
  5. Fry until the bottom side of the fish becomes crispy. 
  6. Flip gently and fry on the other side until crispy.
  7. Remove the fried fish from the oil and place on the paper towel-lined plate (this helps to absorb the excess oil from fish). 
  8. Squeeze the lemon above the fish fry and serve.

Mix well all the ingredients

Clean the fish

Make slits on both sides

Fill the slits

Spread coriander, turmeric and chili powder on plate

Apply both sides

Heat pan and coconut oil

Fry it on medium flame

Fry both sides


Ready to serve
