Instant Pot Series - How to steam Idli using Instant Pot


Idli is steamed rice cake which originated at southern part of India. Its healthy and easy digestion food.  Batter make traditionally the combination of rice and lentil are soaked, grinded into a batter, fermented for 8 hrs and steamed to make these healthy dish.


Reasons why we eat Idli regularly

  • fermented food is best and highly nutritious
  • easily digested even for new borns
  • no fat no cholestrol
  • best go-to food, doesn't get spoil 


Ingredients

  • Idly batter
  • Water - 1.5 cups

Method

  1. Grease your Idly plate moulds with oil. Pour idly batter into moulds. DONT OVERDO.
  2. Add 1.5 cups of water to the Instant Pot. Turn on STEAM mode and wait for 2 mins, now water starts to Boil.
  3. Keep the idly stand inside. 
  4. Close the lid and keep in VENTING position. STEAM mode doesn't have time set up so that set up alarm in phone for 6 mins. After 6 mins, hit CANCEL.
  5. After 2 mins, open the lid and check idlicooked by piercing tooth pick in it.
  6. Remove the idlis from moulds using spoon. Serve hot with chutneys or sambar.

Add water

Hit STEAM

Water starts to boil



Pour batter in mould

Close the lid and keep in VENTING position
Set timer for 6 mins


Check idli steamed properly

Ready to serve
