Pachai payaru kulambu - Green gram dal curry

Pachai payaru kulambu is the simple and best protein rich curry recipe. This goes best with the rice, roti,  idli and dosas.  I like to have different varieties of dal in day to day recipes. So hope you all like it and let me know how it turns out.

Ingredients

  • Pachai payaru / Green gram  - 1 cup  
  • Any vegetable of your choice
  • Onion - 1
  • Tomato - 1  
  • Green chilli - 2 
  • Curry leaves  - 1 sprig 
  •  Turmeric powder  - 1/2 tsp 
  • Chili powder - 1 tbsp
  • Coriander powder - 2 tbsp 
  • Oil - 1 tblsp  
  • Mustard seeds  - 1 tsp  
  • Asafoetida - 1 pinch  
  • Salt to taste

Method

  1. Soak pachai payaru for 10 mins in hot water. 
  2. Pressure cook green gram and tomato upto 3 whistles. Keep it aside.
  3. Heat oil in a pan then add mustard seeds, once splutters add asafoetida and onions. 
  4. Saute it and add boiled tomato.
  5. Add turmeric powder, chili powder and coriander powder.
  6. Add any vegetables as your choice, I added drumsticks today.
  7. Add 1 cup water and allow the vegetables to cook.
  8. Add the cooked pachai payaru and simmer the stove to 15 mins.

Pressure cook green gram and tomato upto 3 whistles.

Keep it aside.

Heat oil in a pan then add mustard seeds, once splutters add asafoetida and onions.

Add tomato

Add all spice powders
Add vegetables on your wish
Add boiled pasipayaru

Add tamarind paste

Cook for 15 mins on medium flame
