Appam recipe is a bit process. This instant karupatti appam recipe can make for breakfast, after school snacks, dinner. Anytime is better to prepare this. Try out and let me know how it comes.
Ingredients
- Idly / Dosa batter - 1 cup
- Palm Jaggery / Karupatti - 1 cup
- Salt - 1 pinch (no need, if already in batter )
- Baking soda - 1/4 tsp
Method
- Heat pan and add karupaati and 1 tbsp water allow it to dissolve in heat.
- Filter it so that some dust particle would remove.
- Allow it to cool and add to batter.
- Add baking soda and add 1/4 cup water(as required) and make the batter as thin consistency. It eases to pour in appam pan and spread evenly.
- Heat appam pan on a medium flame.
- Add few drops of ghee or oil and smear them using a kitchen tissue.
- Take little batter and pour in the center of the appam pan.
- Quickly swirl the kadai so that the batter spreads evenly.
- The edge of the batter should be thin and the excess batter will settle down in the center of the kadai. It forms a thick spongy bed in the middle and thin lacy edges around.
- Close with lid and continue cooking them in medium flame. After the appam is browned well, just scrape a little on the edges with your wooden spatula. Now it should slide off from the pan easily.
